HP Support Assistant is a program that comes preinstalled on all HP and Compaq computers. It runs automatically when you start your computer, and allows you to solve system problems related to automatic updates, tune-ups, and onboard diagnostics. If you prefer not to use HP Support Assistant, or want to use a different program that works in a similar way, you can disable HP Support Assistant.

Click “Start,” click the “Control Panel” and then click “System and Maintenance.”

Click “Administrative Tools” and double-click “System Configuration.” Type your administrator password if Windows prompts it. This launches the System Configuration utility. Click the “Startup” tab. You should see a list of start-up programs. Scroll down, uncheck “HP Support Assistant,” and then click “OK” to save your changes. Restart your computer. HP Support Assistant is disabled.

Click the “Start” menu and click the “Control Panel” if you want to uninstall HP Support Assistant. Click “Programs” and click “Programs and Features” to launch the “Uninstall or change a program” window. Scroll down the window, click “HP Support Assistant,” and then click “Uninstall.” If prompted, enter your administrator password and click “Continue.” Confirm you want to remove this program. The setup wizard launches and removes HP Support Assistant automatically.
